We won’t cancel Man O’ War drills – NYSC DG

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Suleman Kazaure, has said that the Corps has no intention of scraping Man O’ War drill for corps members during orientation camping.

He said the exercise which comprised military exercise and training was designed to build and keep the corps members fit for the primary assignment.

Kazaure said this yesterday during his official visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state.

A female corps member died in Kwara State last week following an injury she sustained during a Man O’ War exercise. But Kazaure said the singular incident should not mean the end of a valuable practice.

“The Man ‘O War activity cannot be scrapped because it builds the corps members. That case that happened in Kwara State is what we were really not happy about. We condole with the family of the corps member. The state coordinator always ensures that officials of the Man O’ War are on ground to guide the corps members,” he said.

Earlier, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Abdullahi Baba, said security agencies in the camp had worked seriously to guard  corps members in the camp.

He disclosed that 2,137 corps members  registered for the 2018 Batch A orientation course in Edo State.
