An 18-year-old man, Lukman Shittu, has been arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling his five-year-old niece.

The accused, who resided in the same house with the victim at Unguwarmata Quarter, Funtua, appeared before the court on Thursday.

He was said to have been caught in the act in the victim’s mother’s bedroom.

The incident was reported by the minor’s father, Aliyu Shittu, at the Central Police Station, Funtua.

A police report on the incident said, “One Aliyu Shittu, of Unguwarmata Quarter, Funtua, reported at the Central Police Station, Funtua, that his younger brother, Lukman Shittu, of the same address, met his (Aliyu’s) daughter, aged five, inside her mother’s room asleep and had sexual intercourse with her.”

According to the police, the offence is contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that the case file had been sent to the state Ministry of Justice for legal advice.

He requested an adjournment of the case.

The magistrate, Hajiya Faleelat Dikko, adjourned the case till March 20, 2018, for mention.

The accused, who is on bail, was, however, directed to report at the court on the adjourned date.
