Driver plans CEO’s abduction, collects N9m
A sacked driver, Tekena Silva (26), is among six men arrested for the abduction of his former boss, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menakeb Limited, Chief Nemi Adoki. Silva and other members of the gang identified as Justice Timothy (22), Akpos Livinus (33), Daniel Allen (27), Kelvin Alpheus (30) and David Abak (29). Silva was Adoki’s driver. He was the person that brought the kidnapping job to the gang and got N1 million as his share. They were arrested by detectives attached to the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abba Kyari.
The 61-year-old Adoki was abducted on December 15, 2017. A man, Mr. Maikano Abdullahi, was said to have been killed during Adoki’s abduction. The shooting and subsequent death of Abdullahi occurred at No.129 Victoria Street in Port Harcourt. Adoki was released after his family paid a ransom of N9 million on January 4, 2018. The CEO was released 21 days after captivity in the creeks of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State. According to a police source, IRT operatives recovered two pump action guns from the suspects.
The source said: “Following Abdullahi’s murder and Adoki’s abduction, the IG deployed operatives to the state. During unrelenting investigation, the operatives arrested six members of the kidnapping gang from different locations in Rivers and Bayelsa states.” Timothy is said to be the gang leader who used an AK47 rifle during the operation, was said to be responsible for Abudullahi’s death. He is also in charge of negotiations.
After the release of Adoki, the gang shared the N9 million and Timothy smiled home with N1.8 million. Another alleged member, Livinus, is said to be the coordinator of the gang’s operations. His role includes arranging weapons for operations. He is also in charge of finding locations in the creeks, where the victim would be kept. He collected N1.2 million as his share in Adoki’s abduction.
Allen is another alleged member of the gang. The police said that he participated in Adoki’s abduction and also collected a share of the ransom. He collected N1 million as his share. Alpheus was in charge of cooking and running errands for the gang and hostages. His share of the ransom was N400,000. Abak is alleged to be the driver of the operational vehicle used in Adoki’s abduction. His share of the loot is N800,000.
