Mentally-deranged man beheaded in Kano

Some unknown persons have reportedly beheaded a mentally-deranged man, identified as Auwalu Magaji, at a tea shop in Tamburawa, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.

A security guard, Haladu Mohammed, said he, alongside others, found Magaji’s headless body at a Mai shai (tea joint) last Saturday at about 6am.

He said, “On Saturday, workers, tea sellers, alongside others within the local community woke up at about 6am to be confronted with the headless body of Auwalu. Disturbed by the strange discovery, residents hurriedly reported the sad incident to the Kura Local Government Police Division, as well as the council leadership.’’

It was gathered that council officials evacuated the headless body, which was dripping with blood, in a Toyota Hilux pick-up van to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital’s mortuary.

Mohammed suggested that the deceased must have been a victim of ritual killing, adding that the body was found to have been dumped by a river bank in the neighbourhood.

The family of the deceased was said to have claimed his corpse following a radio announcement.

The family members, who were said to have come from Kasaure, Jigawa State, reportedly took the body away for burial.

The Kano State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Musa Majiya, said detectives had commenced investigation into the incident.

He gave the assurance that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
