FG, Wike fight dirty over assassination allegation
The Presidency has dismissed allegation by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, that the All Progressives Congress (APC )-led Federal Government is plotting to assassinate him.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in response said, “Codeine-induced allegations fly everywhere now. It even needs no response. People should not judge this Presidency by their own standards.”
Governor Wike had raised the alarm of assasination plot, yesterday, during the third anniversary dedication and thanksgiving of his administration at the Living Faith Church in D-Line, Port Harcourt.
According to Wike: “Intelligence report available to us as at this morning indicate that they are plotting to assassinate me in a crowd and claim it was accidental discharge.”
The governor said the plots of the APC-led Federal Government and its associates would not intimidate him as he remained committed to the defence of democracy and Rivers State.
Speaking at the service, which attracted traditional rulers, prominent leaders of the state and wife of former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan, Wike said the plot against him would fail, because God would continue to defend him.
He said: “The level of conspiracy against Rivers State is unfortunate. Instead of focusing on governance, they focus on how to assassinate me or frame me up.”
Governor Wike had claimed that Federal Government through the Inspector General of Police Abubakar Idris, plotted to plant millions of dollars and AK-47 at his Abuja residence, when the Police sought search warrant from an Abuja court. He noted that last week, the court ruled that the police could not search his Abuja residence, stopping them from their evil plot.
“I am not afraid of my residence being searched by the police, but I know their evil intention,” he said.
Governor Wike said the state government decided on the church programme to thank God for his protection in the face of continuous plot by agents of the APC-led Federal Government.
“Prayer is good. In this thanksgiving, I hold no apology to anybody and I will continue to say that Rivers State is a Christian state. Christians have kept quiet so much. God did not say as a pastor you should not involve yourself in the activities of the state.
“Don’t just go home and rest, as pastors and our spiritual leaders, you should help and tell all members of the community that they must contribute to the success of 2019 elections. Take it upon yourselves to say you will participate and decide who becomes your leaders in 2019.
“If you know the plans of the enemies, the extent the Federal Government has planned against us, there is need to thank the Lord. You should know that God has taken over the care of Rivers State.
“We are born to win, we are born to reign, we are destined for greatness. While other states are commissioning wheel barrows, we are commissioning infrastructure.”
He said despite the declaration by his predecessor and incumbent minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, that his administration would not be able to pay salaries, let alone do projects, he has succeeded in delivering outstanding projects.
Rivers State Pastor of Living Faith Church, Pastor Isaac Folaji, thanksgiving enhances God’s protection and financial multiplication, noting that as a result of the dedication service, God will bless the state.
In another development, Shehu, took a swipe on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying eventhough it founded anti-corruption agencies – the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), it only intended to keep them as toys or toothless bulldogs and not to fight corruption.
Shehu who claimed the PDP administration never had any intention of taking the war against corruption to the level the Muhammadu Buhari administration has done warned Nigerians to be wary ahead of 2019.
Shehu in an article titled ‘The real price of “changing the change” (1)’, said the current administration has successfully fought corruption and has also abolished grand corruption at the top level, for which the international community was applauding him for.
“The real meaning and cost of the “Changing the change,” is that if they win the next election, they will not take us back to where we were in 2015, they will mostly reverse the progress the APC has brought to the nation. The main reason for the defeat of the PDP in 2015 was corruption. The present administration at the centre led by President Muhammadu Buhari has so far presented a corrupt-free image of itself. It has also succeeded in abolishing grand corruption at the top and as attested to by the American President, Donald Trump. The government has significantly brought down the level of corruption in the whole country. It has, however, warned over and again that corruption was fighting back.”
