Troops kill 10 horse-riding insurgents
Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole, at the weekend, encountered horse-riding Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, killing 10 of them and recovering weapons, N2m cash and other items.
The 153-Task Battalion soldiers and the Cameroonian Defence Forces, who were on patrol, had on Saturday engaged the insurgents at Ngelkona village along Wulgo town in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.
Army spokesman at the Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement that the terrorists were overpowered by the troops in a fierce shoot out, as the gallant troops killed the insurgents and captured two AK-47 rifles from them, one Boko Haram flag, a set of Bow and arrows, two mobile handsets and one Cameroonian International Passport.
He added that in a separate operation, troops of the 82-Task Force Battalion of the Operation Lafiya Dole in a night attack on Friday, had routed fleeing elements of Boko Haram insurgents at Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area.
“During the attack, troops killed one Boko Haram insurgent and recovered one AK-47 rifle, 41 rounds of locally fabricated ammunition and four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs),” he said.
According to the statement, in another encounter on Friday, troops of the 27-Task Force Battalion, on a long range fighting patrol, raided a Boko Haram camp in Yaridiri forest in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
He further said the troops also recovered the sum N2.08m cash from their hideout.
