New NAFDAC boss pledges to eliminate unsafe drugs in Nigeria
The new Director General of the National Agency For Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, has pledged the total elimination of unsafe drugs across the country under her leadership.
Adeyeye, who stated this yesterday while assuming office, promised to lead the agency towards eliminating substandard, falsified, unsafe drugs, medical devices, foods and water in the country, as well as collaborate with international standards in medical product regulation to ensure safety, efficacy and quality of locally manufactured drugs and medical products.
She added: “My administration would drive the harmonisation of NAFDAC overlapping functions with those of other sister regulatory bodies, like SON, PCN, NDLEA, Plant and Quarantine Services.
“I will enhance quality testing of medicines by adequately training staff in international quality standards and provide needed laboratory infrastructures.”
Adeyeye vowed to consolidate on NAFDAC’s successes with the use of anti-counterfeit cutting edge technologies adopted by her predecessors and work with manufacturers’ groups and other stakeholders on the drug distribution chain, saying the attainment of the mission and visions of NAFDAC is a collective responsibility of all staff of the agency, “because my role as the director general is to provide leadership, direction and motivation to all staff for the realization of our goals.”
