Fulani herdsmen massacre, fuel scarcity enough grounds for impeachment, says NBA

The Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on Federal government to wake up to its responsibility over the large scale of tragedies caused by Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram, fuel scarcity noting that the situation has constituted ground for impeachment of the government.

The Chairman of the branch, Mr Adesina Ogunlana disclosed this yesterday in a press conference held in Lagos on the 14th annual lecture/ symposium on late human right crusader, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

Ogunlana said that the symposium will hold on January 15, 2018 theme: Federalism, Restructuring and Good Governance Striking the Balance. The NBA branch said is unsatisfied with the federal government over its role in handling of the Fulani herdsmen, adding that native of communities in Taraba, Kebbi, Plateau, Nassarawa states have raised grave allegations against federal government in its clearly tepid reaction to the menace of Fulani herdsmen who have become notorious for mass slaughter of citizens.

According to him, we the Ikeja branch of NBA considers the reason and duty of government is the provision of adequate security for people and properties in its territory.”We have seen the federal government displayed in its might and concern for security of lives, properties and public order in the South east Nigeria and the South South, when such were under threat.

” Many Nigerians are now openly suspected that the federal government tepid response is due to the consanguinal ties of the leading members of the Buhari administration particularly the president himself, the Army, Police, Intelligence Chiefs.

“Many belters like Tivs, Idomas have even giving disturbing pictures of the Nigerian Military collaborating with the killer Fulani herdsmen including intelligence sharing disarming of local vigilantes in the unending massacre of their people especially in the hinterlands.

“It is a regrettable fact now that many Nigerians are persuaded that Buhari government is aiding some groups of people who are kinsmen of president Buhari to take over lands and properties of other Nigerian by war of conquest and decimation.

“It is outrightly irresponsible for any one to claim that Fulani herdsmen are faceless ghost after all the Miyeti Allah Cattle Association of whom the president himself is a member has come out to say that it is behind the killings because her catle were killed or rustle.

“The government by its deliberate reaction and yenning silence is promoting anachy and such as a self disturbing agent of itself and the country. The incompetent of government in this matter is deliberate in our view because the capacity is there to deal much better with the situation.”

The tiger branch further stated that, “if the situation persists, it has constituted enough ground for the impeachment of government. Sooner that later, if the government continue in encouraging, condoning the fulani herdsmen there will be massive self help retaliation against their rapine as the people would not fold their arms and continue as candidate of genocide.”

However, on fuel scarcity, the NBA said that Nigerians are agrieves at the pain inflicted on them at the scarcity of premium motor spirit known as petrol. The association therefore said that the situation has rubbished all the ground claims of government of 2016 that it had found a lasting solution to the problem of supply of petrol. “Nigerians are tired of blame game and wake up to its responsibilitie as the day of reckoning is not far”.
