We were paid N30,000 to kill Rivers PDP Chairman – Suspects confess
Alleged killers of ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogbogoro Community, Obio-Akpor Local government area of Rivers State, Heaven Ihuigwe have said they were paid N30,000 by their contractors.
Ifeanyi Okoro and Ajade Niyi made the disclosure while being paraded at the Rivers State Police Command, Port Harcourt.
They narrated that they were contracted by One Chief Iwuoko to kill Heaven and were promised the sum of twenty million naira after carrying out the assassination but were eventually paid thirty thousand naira only.
According to Niyi, “When they brought the N30,000, I now called Ifeanyi to come and help us to hire the gun we will use. We traced the man from his house to Nkpolu Junction where we caught him and took him to Rumuekini.”
On his part, 25 year-old Ifeanyi said, “I am a mechanic and my workshop is in Omagwa. I was on my own when this guy (Niyi) called me to say there is a job we are going to do and we will make plenty money.
“I agreed because they said my own role is just to help to catch the man. I thought we are just to kidnap him and collect money from his people but I was surprised when they said we will kill him. I am not part of the killing.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Cyril Okoro told newsmen that the alleged killers of Heaven were arrested by the IGP Monitoring Unit after trailing them for five months.
DCP Okoro identified the suspected killers of Heaven as Ifeanyi Okoro, Ajade Niyi, Austin Isotec, Chief Joseph Iwuoko and Clement Yusuf who is at large.
Commander of the IGP Monitoring Squad, ACP Bennett Igwe said investigation showed that the circumstance around the killing of Heaven was not political.
ACP Igwe said Heaven was killed by a group of young men who were contracted to steal documents of landed properties in his possession.
