Ritualist tunnel uncovered on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

A tunnel used by suspected ritualists near Obadeyi bus stop, along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway has been uncovered by residents.

The discovery follows the arrest of an alleged kidnapper after passers-by said they heard a cry for help by a female victim.

Two suspects have so far been apprehended by the residents following a search of the tunnel.

While one of the suspects was set ablaze by a mob, the other allegedly ran out of the other end of the hole but was eventually caught, Premium Times reports.

Though the crowd tried to lynch him, he was saved by soldiers who prevented the mob from setting him ablaze.

The Sun reports that the suspect upon interrogation said there were still two members of the gang in the tunnel.

As at the time of publishing this report, the first suspect who was burnt by the mob was yet to be evacuated.

According to Premium Times, the alleged ritualist was caught after passersby overheard cries of a woman allegedly kidnapped by the suspect and his accomplices.

Narrating the events that led to the discovery, a witness, Adesola John, said the alleged ritualist was found when passersby traced the cries of the woman allegedly kidnapped by the suspect.

“A woman was crying for help and people heard her voice and searched under the bridge before they found this man,” he said.

“The woman has not been found and, as you can see, we are still searching.” Another witness who pleaded anonymity said there may be many victims trapped underneath.
