Police nab NANS president, six others for alleged robbery

• Students’ Union election claims one in Otueke

The President of the Bayelsa State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Perewari Benjamin, a 400 level student of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Ammasoma, was among seven other students paraded for armed robbery yesterday by authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command.

The Students’ Union leader and other students of the school, including a Higher National Diploma (HND) student of Imo State polytechnic, were arrested by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) after allegedly robbing their victim of his bus and money.

The arrest came on the heels of another students unrest at NANS election in Otuoke, which left one dead and several injured, during a shoot-out between two rival cults groups.

Parading the suspected cultists, the state Police Commissioner, Asuquo Amba, said it was sad that a Students’ Union election had degenerated to the use of fire arms that led to the death of a student.

The police chief called for a re-orientation of the youths in the state.
