Man jumps from 5th floor of UCH, Ibadan, dies

A man in his early 50s, yesterday morning, plunged to his death after he jumped from the 5th floor of the Administrative Building of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State.

Screams and gasps of shock resounded after the unknown man landed with a thud on the hard floor of the hospital ground, close to the mortuary department.

When he landed, his head hit the ground and blood splattered. Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the deceased climbed the hand rail of the staircase of the floor, got on top of the short visor constructed as an umbrella to protect people using the stairs, and then jumped.

It was alleged that the man left a note indicating he was defrauded of N30m, and so decided to commit suicide. The note was said to have been taken away by the police. The deceased was clothed in blue native attire, completed with a pair of sandals.

The deceased’s identity was yet to be ascertained by the police as at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, the hospital workers had been on strike. The management, according to the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Deji Bobade, detailed a doctor to examine the stranger and later certified him dead.

The police were then invited. The police were said to have taken pictures and written copious notes. Meanwhile, the remains of the stranger have been deposited at the hospital mortuary. When the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Adekunle Ajisebutu’s phone was called in order to know if police had found out the deceased’s identity, it was discovered that the phone was switched off.
