Firefighters rescue 48-year-old from pit toilet


A 48-year-old woman, Aisha Usman, who hails from the Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State, has been rescued from a collapsed pit toilet by men of the Kano State Fire Service.

According to a source, Aisha accidentally fell into the toilet in the process of urinating at her residence.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, said the incident happened on Monday when the woman was about to use the toilet.

He said, “The incident occurred while the woman was using the toilet at her residence in Sharifawa, in the Gaya Local Government Area of the state.

“Immediately we received a distress call from a relative about the incident at 6.45pm on Sunday,   we dispatched a rescue team from our office and the members swung into action and eventually rescued the woman.”

Mohammed said the woman was rescued, without any injury.

“We rescued the woman and handed her over to the husband,” the fire service PRO added.

Mohammed advised residents of the state to be careful when using unconventional toilets in order to avoid tragedy.
