Adamawa police arrest two suspected robbers, seize arms
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising a sprawling resettlement for internally displaced persons in Malkohi, Wuro-Jabbe and Kofare.
The police also displayed 15 pump-action guns along with 123 live cartridges voluntarily surrendered by their owners in line with the directive on the mop-up of firearms in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdullahi Yerima, said operatives of the special anti-robbery squad on routine surveillance arrested Muhammad Ahmadu and Abdu Saidu, alias Dio, with one locally-made gun.
Abubakar said investigation by the police revealed that the suspects were members of an armed robbery gang that had been terrorising the residents of Malkohi,Wuro-Jabbe and Kofare.
He added that they would soon be arraigned in court, while cautioning tricycle operators in the state against contravening the order on the use of cabin light due to the rising cases of attacks on passengers.
The CP explained that the recovered firearms were voluntarily turned in by their owners.
He said, “In line with the mopping up of firearms from individuals as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the Adamawa State Police Command has recovered 15 pump-action guns and 123 cartridges in the state.
“The owners of the firearms surrendered them to the command voluntarily after hearing about the mop-up announcement in the media. The command is equally using this opportunity to call on those that have yet to surrender their arms to do so, as the command will embark on an aggressive mopping up and seizure of such arms after the expiration of the time given.
“Anyone found with such arms will be arrested and prosecuted as provided by the laws of the land,” he said.
