2 killed, soldiers wounded in Maiduguri suicide attack


Two people, including a suicide bomber, have been killed and two soldiers injured in a bomb attack in Maiduguri, Borno State, in the early hours of Monday.

A male suicide bomber detonated explosives at a shop along Baga road Maiduguri in the early hours of Monday, killing himself and one other person, some residents said. Two soldiers and two Civilian JTF were wounded, they added.

Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Borno State Police Command, Edet Okon confirmed the incident but did not disclose whether or not the injured victims were soldiers and CJTF.

“At about 01:25 hrs,  a male suicide bomber detonated an IED strapped to his body in a shop along Baga Road by Maikore Junction in Maiduguri Metropolis. The resulting explosion killed the bomber and one other person while four other persons were injured,” the police spokesman said in a statement.

He said the command immediately deployed men of the Exposives Ordinance Department (EOD) to “sanitize the scene and render the area safe.”

He said the injured persons were evacuated to the hospital and are responding to treatment.

Also, Commissioner of Police in the state, Damian Chukwu, urged members of the public to be vigilant and to promptly report suspicious persons to the security agencies for necessary actions.

The incident occurred barely 12 hours after another suicide bombing killed one in neighbouring Adamawa State.
