Real reason Obinna Nsofor parted ways with PSL side, Cape Town City

Former Nigeria striker, Victor Obinna Nsofor, left Premier South African League side, Cape Town City, six months after signing for them because he could not settle in the country.

Upon his arrival, the club chairman John Comitis announced Nsofor was signing on a one-year-deal.

However, there was a clause that said his contract would be reviewed after the first six months.

“Obinna had a six-month contract plus [an] option to continue and he couldn’t get his family here because of paperwork, and we decided that maybe it’s best to part ways.

“We had a one season [contract] to it but it was to be reviewed after six months and he didn’t settle. His wife couldn’t get the visa to come here,” Comitis told KickOff.

The 30-year-old scored only one goal in 14 appearances and despite coach Benni McCarthy doing his best to retain him, he was asked to leave.

“Chairman John Comitis agreed with Victor from the beginning that we would do a review after six months and he didn’t feel that it was working for us‚” coach Benni McCarthy told TimesLIVE.

“There are no hard feelings between us. He understands. I felt he was getting fitter‚ better and stronger but I don’t think the chairman was convinced.”
