Windstorm destroys houses in Katsina, renders many homeles


Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless in Mashi and Musawa Local governments of Katsina following a heavy rain down pour that destroyed their residences.

The victims are presently taking refuge with family and friends while others are seen trying to refix their houses to enable them temporarily continue to use them.

A one hour rainfall yesterday evening accompanied by a heavy wind led to the destructions. Aside houses, institutional structures like school fence and stadiums were affected.
Some victims while lamenting the incidence which they attribute to God will however called for assistance from concern authorities to enable them start up life again.
Umar Usman whose wife had a dislocation from a collapse roof said the experience was horrifying noting that all my house was blown open by the heavy wind and filled with rain water.
For Jamilu Malumfashi, ‘ to be candid the houses affected are many, it can be close to 200 houses’
When contacted the Executive Secretary of the state Emmergency Management Agency, Dr. Aminu Waziri said already a team of relief and rehabilitation have been dispatched with a view to assess the damages for proper action.
They will be in Mashi today and by tomorrow they will head to Musawa to document for next line of action, he added.
